Bishop Steering Technology Pty Ltd was originally founded in America in 1957 by Dr Arthur E Bishop. A creative genius, Dr Bishop had both the engineering ingenuity to design breakthrough automotive systems, and also the leadership skills to attract and inspire highly-specialised designers and engineers.

In drawing together a multi-national team of engineers and intellectual property protection experts, Bishop has introduced numerous innovative automotive steering systems. Elements of Bishop’s technology, such as its steering valve technology and variable ratio technology have achieved major market penetration in America, Europe and Asia since the 1970s.

On 15th January 2011, GMH Stahlverarbeitung GmbH – a subsidiary company of the Steel Processing Unit of Georgsmarienhütte Holding GmbH – acquired Bishop and its subsidiary companies Bishop Steering Technology Inc. (Indianapolis/USA) and Bishop Steering Technology GmbH (Cologne/Germany).

After a subsequent restructure of the Bishop business, Bishop Steering Technology Inc became a direct subsidiary of GMH Stahlverarbeitung GmbH and Bishop Steering Technology GmbH merged with MVO GmbH Metallverarbeitung Ostalb, another subsidiary of GMH Stahlverarbeitung GmbH.
